Review: Gracie Snow is supposed to escort ex-football star Bobby Tom Denton to the set of the movie that he is very very late to film. Bobby Tom is bound and determined to drag his feet and take his time getting there, but he didn't count on a tenacious wallflower like Gracie. She will do whatever she needs to do to get his gorgeous butt there and save her job. And she will fall in love with her charge along the way....

There are so many things about this book I loved, I just don't know where to start. It's a little odd I loved it so much. What kind of name is Bobby Tom? What is WITH his fashion sense?? Yuck! Why does Gracie need to be plain to start?? And yet, I loved Bobby Tom so much I graciously overlooked his atrocious name and flashy apparel because how could you NOT love him? He's just so outrageous in the most adorable way. And Gracie! Poor dear! You really feel for her. She feels so boring and plain, but with the help of a makeover she starts to feel pretty for the first time ever! This book just had so much heart and emotion and it was just plain old fashioned FUN!! And I just adored the secondary romance between his mom and the town "bad guy". It was almost sweeter than the romance between Bobby Tom and Gracie. But not quite. I could just go on and on, but I'll stop now. Clearly I am keeping this one around!

Review: I LOOOVED this book. It was not quite like anything I have read before. I thought it was wonderful and romantic and I enjoyed seeing Lara grow her backbone back and learn to love her husband. But not her husband. How confusing. hahaha! I thought Hunter (but not Hunter) was really sweet and endearing. This is one of those books where as you're reading you think 'how sweet', but in the back of your mind you know that in real life it would actually be a little creepy that this guy who is clearly NOT her dead husband comes to take his place. Still, it's not hard to love this story. I do sort of wish we got to know more about the new Hunter, but the author just decided that we should only know him by his new identity. We learn just enough about who he was, but clearly we are meant to look forward and not behind. I do so love a Kleypas novel!

Hannah falls in love with Wind Rider (aka Ryder, his birth name) and agrees to marry him, while also trying to convince him that he needs to return to the white world and try to help his Cheyenne people from that side.

I enjoyed this romp. It was a fun 90's style romance, which is really my favorite era for both books and music. It moved along at a good clip and kept my attention.

Review: I enjoyed this story and look forward to The Destiny. I expected a little more, but I found it pleasant, if not entirely exciting. The characters were enjoyable and endearing. I felt like the tree prophesy plot line needed to be fleshed out a bit more, but I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good Scottish romance!

The Windy City isn't quite ready for Phoebe Somerville -- the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who has just inherited the Chicago Stars football team. And Phoebe is definitely not prepared for the Stars' head coach Dan Celebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. Celebow is everything Phoebe abhors.

Review: I thought I didn't like SEP, having tried one of her oldies once up a time and hating it and never finishing it, so I read this book kicking and screaming. I stopped screaming soon into starting it. Wow!!!!! Lets just say that I wasn't half way through before I made a mad dash for my local UBS and bought out everything they had of hers. Talk about a turn around! I nearly got whiplash! Utterly fabulous. I found it funny, sexy (wowser), and it had a lot of heart. I have never read anything quite like it before. Phoebe was a wonderful heroine -- one of my favorite types. The type who has a public face that is so unlike who she really is, and the hero catches a glimpse of the real woman and stops at nothing to 'unmask' her and find out what makes her tick. I LOVED Dan. He's a wonderful hero and also one of my favs -- uncivilized. I do love me an uncivilized and rough around the edges hero. Yum.

Review: I read the back cover and thought it might be like her book "The Game" which was just fabulous, but alas, it was sooooo not. I found it crushingly disappointing. It's one saving grace was the fact that the heroine liked sex. With a Joyce book you just never know if you're getting a heroine who thinks it's icky or not. *snicker* Seriously, I wound up skimming half of the book, never really caring about the characters or what happened to them. The hero was just too bitter and mean. Oh well. The cover is pretty.

Review: This is one of those books that i have mixed feelings about. Love the writing, love the love scenes, love the hero, love the setting and beauty and the beast theme. It was very much like Woodiwiss's A Rose in Winter, which I just adored. The only thing that kept this book from being a 5 and favorite was that silly twit of a heroine. She's 18, and it shows. I felt her immaturity in every scene, and it just really detracted from the story for me. But I must say that I was really pleasantly surprised with this author. I have never read Judith Ivory before, and this will certainly not be my last, because she really is a fabulous writer! She is both easy to read and intelligent, which is harder to achieve than you might think. Over all I would definitely recommend this book -- the heroine wasn't bad enough for me to dislike it.

Review: Loooove. Like the book in the previous post, this book is by a newby author, and was also a huge hit in the romance community. Unlike the previous book, I adored it. This book was a little dark, but I found I enjoyed that about it. I find my tastes are changing lately, and these darker more dramatic, less conventional books are appealing to me more and more. I found it totally engrossing, and quite amazing. The emotional journey and healing after so much tragedy and grief by both hero and heroine was really wonderful. Ahhh the scene where they are re-united was amazing. This is one of those book that will never fade into the woodwork of my mind -- it will stay with me for a very long time.

Review: I feel pretty guilty about my rating of this book. I know it's been a huge hit in the romance reader community, but I had trouble with this one. First, the good things: it was well written, and very unusual -- never read a book with quite this kind of theme before. There were several parts that I thought were fabulous (on the stagecoach before separating, and when he saves her in England in the ally-- both parts were amazing), but a couple of fabulous portions do not a great book make. The heroine's speech patterns were distracting to me, and I got a little tired of her trying to kill the hero. By later half of the book I was starting to skim (which I hate to do), and I found all the details thrown at me in the conclusion too much too late. I wish we had had all those details doled out over the course of the book. Over all, I found it enjoyable, and since I have the second book on my shelf already I'll go ahead and read it, but I won't be dashing for it anytime soon or likely buying more.

Review: One Sunday evening I caught the movie form of this book on Hallmark. I loved it. A few days later my good friend emailed me very excited about a book and insisted I had to read it. She was already on her third reading of it. When it occurred to me that it was the same as the movie, I was intrigued!! I wasn't so sure I was going to like the book -- I thought it might be kind of Janette Oke-ish in book form, and I outgrew Janette Oke by my 16th birthday. But despite my misgivings, I checked it out from the library and dived in. It was one of those books that you're going along reading and thinking, 'hm it's good, but not great', and then before you know it your completely enamored.

It was amazing. There are so many layers and so much emotion and heart in this story, it just blew me away. Way better than the movie. I think the screenwriter for the movie missed the whole point of the book -- literally. Part of the story was totally different in the movie and was inconsistent with what the book is saying.

In life we make choices. Sometimes things work out better than we thought they ever could, and sometimes they don't. But not matter what choices we make there are ALWAYS consequences. We need to think about our choices and reactions and actions and think about what might happen as a result. And who we might hurt and effect with our actions.

I also appreciated the message that it's OK to live an ordinary life! There is NOTHING wrong with that! We can't all be destined to wander the globe and have adventures.

I just can't say enough good things about this book -- it's a must read and I am going to have to get a copy to keep.

Review: I thought this book was amazing!! So many new developments in the story! I didn't really feel like this book was much about the romance though. Maybe because much of the romance was developed in previous books between the two, Ward felt freer to go into other aspects of the story -- and what stunning ones they are. The romance was there and it was good, but it took more of a backseat than it has in any of the other books so far. Very, very much looking forward to Vhishous's story next!

Review: Oh this was just lovely. I enjoyed this one immensely!!! Lily is a mass of contradictions -- I love heroines who have a public persona and a private one. I think it gives them real interest -- it makes the hero want to figure out what makes her tick, and I find that whole process enjoyable to 'watch'. Lily is a feisty heroine without being immature or shrewish. I love Alex and Lily.

Review: Oh for heavens sake. Storm made me just batty. What a shrew!! Their constant fighting was not only not sexy or romantic, it was boring as heck. If memory serves, they are still fighting in the last chapter of the book. It was just a little mentally exhausting. Why did I keep reading this book? I'm not really sure.

Review: Good and enjoyable, but I found the plot somewhat forgettable.... For example: I read this 3 months ago and I am sitting here having trouble remembering what happened in the story that I loved. I thought their first meeting was fabulous and sweet, but over all I didn't find it a keeper.....

Review: I had high expectations for this book having adored "My Dearest Enemy", and while this was a good solid read, I wanted more. I was loving it until Harry seemed to lose his back bone. I felt like he didn't fight for Desdemona enough. The setting was unusual (India) and interesting, and the characters were good, they just didn't befriend me.

Not as good as her first 4 books, this was good, but when I turned the last page I realized that McCabe never told Roma that he loved her! Um, ok. And her name, Roma, drove me a little crazy. Is she a tomato...? Anyway, other than those two minor things this was a decent read.

Review: Pretty good. Nothing I would get wowed over, but a decent read! Steamy, interesting, but check your brain at the door, because some of the stuff in here is slightly over the top. I enjoyed it!

Review: HERE!! Here is my rough, brutish, ill-mannered Tarzan hero (see previous review)!!! How I loved him. Adored. It's books like this that set my standards so high. Why can't all heroes be like this one??? I found Zachary Bronson absolutely wonderful -- he's rough, he's ill-mannered, he's totally and un-apologetically wicked. I found him utterly delightful and charming. Call me crazy. Allow me to gush further: I was literally captivated by this story from the first and it wove me into it's delightful spell until I turned the last page. When Zachary kissed her and she started crying.... sigh. I cried for Holly and all that she had to go through to find happiness again. I loved the way he loved her. It was perfect. And her daughter and her button string! So sweet and adorable. I have to say it: Zachary Bronson in all his brutish, arrogant glory just marched up to Nick Gentry and booted him off of my most favorite Kleypas hero of all time throne. Best book I read all year, hands down.

Review: I adored the first four Bridgerton books, to varying degrees, but this one really flopped for me. I think perhaps Julia Quinn's idea of "rough brute" and mine differ greatly. I adored the idea of a rough ill-mannered hero! What fun! Would he have any manners at all? Would he be like Tarzan?? Imagine my disappointment when a mild botanist who is a bit afraid of his children emerges from the pages of this book. I'm afraid it just never made me sit up and take notice. The romance was a bit tepid, to be sure. I somewhat enjoyed Eloise's interaction with the wild children (much more Tarzan like actually than their father), but overall I had hoped for much more....

Review: A few years ago I probably would have avoided this book based on Helen's past as a Duke's mistress, but I would have missed a treasure if I had. I do love a good fairytale retold, and this book very much fits the bill. I found Helen very genuine and real, and her 'beast' Alistair was truly wonderful. I also appreciated the 'break' from heroes in this series who are so obsessed with finding the Spinner Falls traitor. Alistair wants to know as well, but he is not consumed with the puzzle as the previous 3 heroes in this series have been, which got a bit old. I am super excited to read about the long-lost-thought-dead Reynard in the last book!!

Review: First, I have to say I am a sucker for cheesy covers. They amuse me. But inside the cheesy covers of this book I found a delightful and emotional story as well! I thought Heather was a fantastic female lead, and well suited for the very yummy Sloan. I loved reading their story and it had one of my guilty pleasure elements -- Sloan is a total jerk at one point and Heather makes him work to win her back. I hate when the heroine falls back into the hero's arms with very little effort on the hero's part. Over all I found this story very satisfying and lovely.

I was extremely intrigued by the talk this book was stirring up amongst romance readers, so despite having some-what given up on this author, I snagged a copy from the library, and am I ever so glad that I did! Hello! Ms. Ashley is back on my radar! The hero in this story is mildly autistic, though clearly high functioning. He was delightful and charming and I thought Beth was completely perfect for him. I thought the author handled his condition sensitively and created a very endearing hero. All of the characters really jumped off the page and I am SO excited to read about Ian's brothers.

Review: I sort of put off reading this book because I wasn't so sure I was going to like Melisande as a heroine, having met her in To Taste Temptation. I mean, a heroine who only wears brown?? Who ever heard of such a thing! But this was one of those books I seriously misjudged. It was actually fantastic. Even after finishing it I was still thinking about it and awed by it. I admit I was hoping that Vale would get her out of those brown dresses already and everyone one would discover that she is actually beautiful and not plain at all.... but it didn't go that way at all, and I admire the author for not only NOT changing Melisande, but also not changing Vale. Despite all of their ups and downs in this book, one thing made abundantly clear was that Melisande and Vale accepted one another as they were, and never tried to change the other person. It was refreshing. I was very much reminded why I am such a huge fan of Elizabeth Hoyt -- she is an amazing writer.

Review: The second book in the Drakon series.... as with the first book, I enjoyed it, but it took a bit for me to get into it. I was actually kind of bored until about half way through, when the book suddenly grabbed me. It's the craziest thing -- with Shana Abe's book I sometimes feel like I'm more hypnotized by the story than anything else. I'm not a huge shape-shifter fan, but it works in Abe's writing style. Her fairy tale way of writing tricks you into enjoying story lines you wouldn't think you would. It was certainly left with some loose ends though, which I did not like. I know she plans on addressing them in the next book, but I really wanted them addressed right away. The "tribe" Lia is a part of makes me crazy. I feel like a rebellious teenager when I read about them. I hope they get their due one of these books.....

If you don't know who she is, it would take too long to explain, but the short version is that she is someone I know. This book is a keeper!!

I waited months for this book. I put it on my wish list at the library, on paperback swap, and waited with bated breath for my name to come up.... finally, the library sent me a notice -- it was on hold for me!! Yippy! Then I started it.

I'm afraid I only got about 130-ish pages in. Fallen Angel? He's just a guy who stepped in a puddle that had live electricity laying on it. Heaven? Sure, if you think of heaven as a couple of English chaps playing croquet next to a castle as heaven.... His sign to direct him to the person he is supposed to help? A neon arrow on the screen of a mounted TV pointing down to his boss who stands beneath it. The heroine? Oh, she's a 'lady of the night' in a seedy goth club. Sigh. I can't fairly give this book any kind of number of hearts since I couldn't bring myself to finish it, but suffice to say, I will be passing on this series.

Review: I have been looking forward to Penelope's story -- if anyone deserved a happy ending it's her. She's been largely over looked and unnoticed in all of the previous books, and you really feel for her and want someone to see her and love her. This was a very satisfying story. And bonus -- we find out the identity of Lady Whistledown!!!! It was who I suspected, though Julia Quinn did a good job of making me question my guess before the Great Reveal. Just a lovely story worthy of the Bridgerton series.

Review: Wow!!!!! I simply adored this book!!! I enjoyed how it started out with the Cinderella-like story line, but then about a hundred pages in it veered off in a new direction. I found the whole book honestly delightful. I was either giggling or getting teary through most of the book. It seems like with each Bridgerton book I become more and more enamored with this family. I confess I am a sucker for anything with a fairy tale twist, but not all authors pull it off -- this was just utter perfection.

Review: How fascinating!! Buffy the Vampire slayer meets Regency England. In a way it also reminded me of KMM's Fever series, the way it leaves you wondering who the hero will wind up being when the series concludes. This book was refreshingly original -- at least it's not quite like anything I have read to date. I liked Victoria -- I felt for her and the choices she had to make, and the consequences for some of her choices were harsh in this book. I liked how it wasn't terribly heavy, but nor was it too light and silly like some paranormal authors tend toward. I will definitely be reading more of this series....

Review: I really had to push through this one -- not very interesting at all. How disappointing! This author is otherwise known as J.R. Ward, and I love the books she publishes under that name, but it was almost like a whole different author with this one! I have seen rave reviews for this book, which perplexes me... I guess I will stick with her paranormals.

Review: What a wonderful book!! This took me by surprise -- I didn't know how I would like a beta hero, but frankly, I adored him. It was a refreshing change from conniving, harsh, rake types I normally read about. Surprisingly, despite the fact that there are NO villains or bad people in the entire book, it still managed to stay interesting and fresh. I thought every interaction between Avery and Lily was sweet and endearing and very romantic. This is very much a romantics book. I would have liked more letter interaction I think -- that is my only complaint. Or rather, I would have liked to have seen more of the letters. This is one of those books that made me feel a broad range of emotion. I was laughing, I was crying.... I totally cried when I read the letter Avery wrote after his friend died. I just cannot say enough good stuff about this book, I highly recommend it.

Review: AHHHGGGHH. This sums up my feelings about this book in one 'word'.

Not a terrible book, but the heroine was such a NINNY I felt like I was rolling my eyes constantly. Also, (slight spoiler) when she was kidnapped for a THIRD time I was a little appalled at the author. Really? She needs to be kidnapped 3 times? I certainly did not feel in any way connected to the characters, so when Very Bad Things happened to her I didn't really care.... I didn't! It's terrible to admit, I know! Maybe, just maybe, if every other sentence out of her mouth didn't sound like a variation of "Eeek! This is not proper! Ladies do not do this! Icky!" Ok, I exaggerated SLIGHTLY, but the idea is the same. I think she is, seriously, the most NON-sexual heroine I have ever read about. Stick that poor girl in a nunnery!! The hero should have dumped her.

I normally love this author to pieces, so I hope the rest of the Bragg series is better.

I have never been crazy about the whole series by different authors idea -- there are more books about the other characters by other authors, and frankly, I would not run out and buy the other ones, though I am curious about how the loose end pans out in a later book. Oh well....

Review: I actually really really enjoyed this book. I thought Lucy seemed a bit young and immature at first (one of my big pet peeves), but she seemed to grow more mature as the story went on. There was lots of humor and fun in this book. I thought the chemistry between Lucy and Jeremy was fantastic -- I adored the wardrobe scene!! While their premarital chemistry was smoking hot, after they got married it kind of fizzled. I actually started to think that they weren't the most well matched couple ever, and it never quite recovered for me.... It all ended well and happy, of course, but I just couldn't give it a higher rating for that slight nosedive. Over all I am looking forward to getting the next book in the series and finding out what happens to her friend.

Review: As usual, I now have more questions than answers!!! I am so ready for book 5 to get some of those answers!! I was so completely engrossed in this book I barely came up for air. Once I read the last line I wanted to scream.... WHO IS IT???? I think this cliff-hanger is even worse than the last one!! While I adore this series, I do hope KMM gives us some books more like what she used to write after this series is over.... Oh, and if Jericho isn't the hero at the end of this series I will probably scream. Seriously.

I think it adds an emotional element that is hard to achieve any other way. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, I am so looking forward to reading the next 2 connected books, Mr. November and Treat Her Right.

Review: I wasn't crazy about the first book in this series (Sugar Daddy), but this book was a whole different story-- I loved it! It was emotional and, at times, hard to read, but it was so immensely satisfying and sweet. I liked Hardy in the last book, but this one made me love him. I'm very glad that I gave this book a chance.

Review: I enjoyed this quite a lot. A little different from the norm, sexy, funny, basically classic Kleypas. The sex scenes were a little hotter than she normally does, and just a teeny tiny bit kinky. Nothing to faint over, but surprising for her nonetheless. I found it quite engrossing and a lovely cabin vacation read.

Review: This book took me by surprise -- though I don't know why. It's not like Hoyt's books have ever left me unsatisfied before. I ADORE this new-ish author. How does she do it? I was rolling along in this book enjoying it, but not wowed at first, but about half way through I was well and truly captivated and emotionally involved in Simon and Lucy's story. I admit that I was at first a little put off by Simon's fashion sense. The word "metro-sexual" comes to mind.... but once I caught the glimpses of the man behind the urbane mask, I was lost. This is an emotional and wonderful story that should not be missed. And no, still not as good as The Raven Prince.... I'm still waiting for one of her books to reach the utter perfection of that story.

I was trying to write a synopsis for this book, but it's one of those that sounds hopelessly confusing when trying to describe the story line. So I think I will give up and just say what I thought about it. I can sum it up in one short word: Eh. If 'eh' is a real word, that is. It has a heroine named Charlie (I am SO not a fan of girls with boys names). And she's a tough cookie. The only thing feminine about her is her frilly bedroom -- which incidentally seemed odd and out of place to me. I get that Foster is trying to say, 'hey, look, she's not all boy-ish', but it just didn't work for me. I wasn't feeling this book at all. It had it's moments, and I'm glad I read it, but if you don't already have this number on the 'ol TBR, I'd say don't bother. It was just Ok. There was no 'blaze' to it.

This little book took me by surprise. This is one of Foster's early works, and it's easy to see how she has attained such popularity after reading this. For a 217 page book it tackles some serious issues, but also manages to be sweet, endearing, sexy, and totally engrossing. I devoured it in one day (like that was hard - LOL!), and wished for more! And can I just add that I LOOOOVE a hero named Sebastian. It's my number one favorite hero name.......

Review: This was a reissue/2-in-one deal containing Irish Thoroughbred and Irish Rose. I loved both stories, but I was particularly charmed by the first one. I read this while camping and found it perfect for vacation reading. Both books made me tear up and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I have the next 2 books in this series and I am hoping they are as endearing as these two.

In the previous book (Lover Eternal, book 2) Bella was kidnapped by the Lessening society and held captive by a deranged Lesser with serious head issues. Zsadist has made it his personal mission to find her and bring her back, haunted by the connection they had before her abduction. In a stroke of luck, he and the rest of the Brotherhood find out where she is and rescue her, en mass. I have to say that part made me a little teary, that they would all care that much. Now Bella must heal inside and out after her weeks at the hands of the Lesser named Mr. O. Not the only one with some healing to do, Zsadist is seriously mentally and physically scarred from his own past as a blood slave to a female vampire, who used him for more than just his blood, and warped his ideas of sex. The way Bella and Zsadist are able to come together, heal together, and be together was touching and wonderful. I was thoroughly enamoured with this book and it's complexity. A few things happen to other characters in this book that didn't exactly thrill me however. I can't wait to find out how this story continues.....

Review: I enjoyed this book quite a bit. This is Paula Quinn's debut novel, and I do think she has gotten better since then. I found this easy to read. The writing had an enjoyable feel, it moved along quickly, and the characters were engaging and fun. It didn't quite reach keeper status for me, but definitely well worth the read if you like a light medieval romp.

Review: Ummm.... this was cute. Not blown away though. I'm not even a little bit into geeky types, and the hero was kind of geeky. I was a little bored in parts of the book, but I pushed through them, and I'm glad I did. I have some of this author's more recent work waiting patiently on my TBR sheves, and I am still looking forward to reading them, I just won't be keeping this one around for a re-read.

Review: Heartbreakingly awsome. It is clear why Derek Craven is such a fan fav. He was wonderful. I think I only liked Sara. She was so darn set on marrying that mamas boy for too much of the book, I wanted to smack her. I'm not so sure she was the ideal heroine for the part, but what do I know. I do have to say that Derek holds second place in my favorite Kleypas heroes. Nick Gentry (Worth Any Price) has already taken the top slot, and he is not willing to give up his spot.

Review: Amazing. Utter fantastic-ness!! I was so fascinated by every aspect of this book -- Joyce really brings to vivid life the court intrigue, the thoughts and feelings of queen Elizabeth, and of course the two protagonists, Katherine and Liam are some of the best. I want a Liam! He was the stuff a woman's dreams are made of -- vivdily masculine, and delicious. This book blew me away and even if Joyce's other books were utter crap (which they are not, mostly), this book would still ensure I was a total rabid fan. This book is not to be missed. It is also not to be given away. This goes into The Box of Amazing Keepers.

Review: I really enjoyed this book. I jumped right into it after Mine Till Midnight because I couldn't wait to read Win and Kev's story. While a very good book, it didn't grab onto me quite the same as MTM. It took me longer to finish it. I felt that it might have been best if Kleypas had distanced the couple from Amelia and Cam. Cam is so large as a character, I felt like Kev was falling into his shadow when the two were in scenes together. Even when they weren't, I still focused more on Cam. We learn more about these two mysterious Gypsys in this book and their conections to eachother. Facinating. And Leo, the loser brother, is in it as well, of course. He is less loser-ish, though I am still not a huge fan of his. I will be disgruntled if she gives him his own story. I will graciously allow him to have a side story in her future books, but please, I'd rather not read a whole book about him!

Review: Absolutely Fabulous. THIS is some of Kleypas' best work!! I was completely drawn in. Amelia is so genuine and real, a fantastic heroine. Cam is just total yumminess. Larger than life and so very manly! I enjoyed the set-up for the next book about Win and Kev as well. They broke my heart. The only character I was not a huge fan of was their brother Leo, who they start out the book looking for because he is an opium adicted loser. I get that she (Kleypas) must have uses for him since he survived the book, though I had my doubts that he would, the idiot oaf. I thought the mild ghost element was different. Not sure if I liked it or not... it kind of threw me a little. Over all, this was a throughly engaging, highly romantic, and enjoyable read. I hated to see it end.

The 38 Most common Fiction Writing Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them) By Jack M. Bickham

One of my all time favorite authors had this book listed as recommended reading for aspiring writers, so I was delighted to find a copy at the library. For such a small book (just over 100 pages), I have found it to be extremely helpful and informative. Bickham's approach is very straightforward, concise, and no nonsense, which I actually really enjoyed. He covers a great deal of information in this book.

He talks about using exaggeration when creating characters to make them seem more real. It never occurred to me to do that, but I see his point. Some of my favorite and most memorable characters in books I have read have been extreme. He also warns against being a literary snob -- looking down on other genre's than your own, or thinking you are smarter than your reader. He states that it will come across and alienate your reader. He says to always keep the story moving, which seems very simple and obvious, but I can remember reading books that seemed to meander a little aimlessly with very little forward momentum, and I found them boring and frustrating to read. On a similar vein, he says that there should be a reason and a point for everything that happens in the story. That can also be frustrating for a reader who may become distracted by pointless details, trying to figure out how they fit, when the author never intended it to be an important detail.

That is just a small sample of the useful tips included in this book, and I look forward to going over it again, taking notes, and putting his tips into practice with my own writing.

Review: Love. Love. Love. I soooooo love this author. This actually was not quite as good as "Blade's Lady" or "Cullen's Bride" (both will be stored with my favorites forever and ever until I die), but while it didn't sweep me away as dramatically as those other two, it still deserves no less than a 5 for me. Just fantastic writing, highly romantic, and another hero that makes me swoon. I've said it many times before, and I'll say it yet again, Fiona Brand is very similar to vintage Linda Howard. This is a keeeeeper!!!

Review: This book was just plain fun. One thing I enjoy about this author is that she clearly does not take herself too seriously. I found it sexy, easy to read, funny, and her characters are very likable. My one and only gripe was one of the side character pair-ups. I could NOT stand the guy. Over all, I definitely recommend this book!! Perfect summer beach reading.

Review: I enjoyed this book a lot. I didn't love it quite as much as Dark Lover, but still a good solid installment. It wasn't as action packed as I expected it to be. And the sexual tension was just ok. I had a hard time with what happened the night they finally had sex, but oddly enough, I forgave Rhage fairly quickly. His heart was in the right place anyway. I was sooooo totally icked out by what happened to the one guy at the hands of the Omega. Seriously. So gross. I was disappointed that the one guy didn't die in this book, because I have a feeling that it will come up again or something, and frankly, I would prefer to avoid that mental picture again. Moving on, I liked Mary. She wasn't my most favorite heroine of all time, but I didn't dislike her at all. I just didn't feel any kind of kinship with her. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book since this one left off on a slight cliff hanger!!

Review: I LOVE Lisa Kleypas. But I did not love this book. It pains me, because I thought I would love it. I think it was a little too much like chick-lit for my personal taste, and that may have been the problem for me. The story seemed to dwell a long time on her childhood. I kept waiting for it to jump ahead at some point, but it rarely jumped more than a year or so at a time. I never loved Liberty as a person, but I liked her well enough. In fact, this book was a 4 for me until close to the end of the book. I LOVED Gage. I thought he was fantastic. But when Hardy showed back up and tried to steal Liberty back, I was frankly appalled at how wishy-washy Liberty was about which guy she wanted. I really lost a huge amount of respect for her because of the way she handled the situation. I thought Gage deserved better, and frankly I wouldn't have blamed him if he had dumped her. I even wondered if she would have ultimately chosen Hardy if he had not betrayed her.... Anyway, I will keep reading her contemporaries, but my heart will always be with Lisa's historicals.

Review: I don't know WHAT was going on with this book. I actually liked the first book (Dark Seduction) better than this one. The sexual tension was just not there at all, and I felt like things were not really explained very well in parts. Like at one point she is supposed to stay on a holy island for her own safety, but she leaves it, like, 2 seconds later, but the warriors and gods guarding her never come after her to bring her back? And at one point they have sex, but the hero takes too much of her "white light" and makes her powers weak for a while. The powers that be tell them they can't have sex again because she needs to keep her powers sharp, but somehow this never becomes an issue again. They do it, nothing bad happens and the gods don't make a peep about it. It was just so inconsistent most of the way through. Things that seem like a big deal one second, evaporate and are a non issue the next. I will keep going in this series only because I already have the next couple of books, and I will really hope it gets better. So far I am thinking she should stick to historicals....

Review: This book blew me away. I have been hearing about it for years, and finally got my butt in gear and got a copy of it. This is the authors only book, so far, so I had no idea what I was getting, really, when I began it. It is one of those books that grabbed me and didn't want to let me go until I finished it. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it and plotting when I could get back to it. This book is HOT. Burning. Sizzling. Smutty. Wicked. Fabulous. Even amidst all the hottness of this book, the author also manages to make you feel the love and the struggles of the Passion and Mark. It's emotional AND hot. Not to mention well written. I now join the throng of fans waiting for book 2 -- a book that was supposed to be out years ago, but for some unknown reason has not been released yet. I will be at the bookstore on the release day. I will willingly pay full price for the next fabulous book.

Review: Though this was published in 1990, this book has some very "1980's" elements. If you know what I mean. Somehow it worked, and worked well. A word of warning: This is not a comfort read. And Brenda Joyce does not typically adhere to the usual formulas and "rules of romance". It is at times shocking and appalling. There were moments where I had to stop and kind of laugh at the hero. His standards were just all kinds of all over the place, and it was either laugh or be pissed off at him. I preferred to laugh, myself. I found it good old bodice ripper raunchy fun, and I look forward to reading more deWarrens.

Review: I began reading this book years ago, but at that point I had been avidly reading other vampire books for several years, so by the time I got around to reading this I thought I might scream if I read about one more blood sucking vampire. So about mid-way through I took it back to the UBS. Years later, I have taken many years off of vamps, and at many recommendations I decided to give this series another go of it. Not only did I FINISH it this time, but I LOVED it. There was a lot going on in this book. Lots of set up, but it was all interesting set up. Lots of action, lots of romance, lots and lots of hot vampires. I read all 400 pages of this book in one day, which is unheard of for me these days, but I simply could not stop turning the pages. I hope the rest of the BDB series is as fantastic as this first book.

Review: This book was a 5 in the first half of the book! Sizzling sexual chemistry, adventurous, unusual, and did I mention the chemistry??? Then I got to the second half of the book. I had no problems with Jack. I LOOOOOVED Jack. I want Jack. He's delightfully wicked. Eden, on the other hand, made me look up from my book and roll my eyes on more than one occasion. She was SOOOO annoying in the second half! I swear, the demented woman was mad at him all the time, and just could not let things GO already! Because of her irritating attitude, scenes I was looking forward to reading (confrontation with Jack's past love for example), were less than satisfying. Man, can that woman hold a grudge.... It could have been an easy 5 favorite if not for her and her childishness.

Review: I confess I have mixed feelings about this book. I ordered it from B&N online, so I didn't get an up close and personal look at the cover until it was in my hot little hands, so I didn't see the blood soaked cloth on his arms before hand. Though I am not street/world wise in many ways, I knew this meant he was a cutter, and I was worried about how large a part this may play in the story, being a bit squeamish about such things. To my enormous relief, it didn't last a long time. This book is not for the faint of heart.... I am slightly faint of heart, so I am not going to be an enormous #1 fan of this book for that reason alone. It was a dark, intense journey. It didn't pull my heart strings as much as I expected it to.... I don't know why that is, but I did enjoy and appreciate this book for what it is -- a story about healing, acceptance, friendship, and of course, love. Honestly, I don't know that I would read more from this author, though I am glad I read this book. **mild spoiler** As for the ending, I get why he didn't come to her immediately upon arriving back, but it bugged me a little. Over all, an excellent debut book from a gifted author

Review: A beautiful story, yet again, by Shana Abe. This is one of her first books, and I found it immensely satisfying and enjoyable -- Abe again draws me into her somehow lyrical writing and fairytale like story. I find with her books that I am unable to read them quickly. I savor every word without conscious thought. Just a beautiful story with her signature hint of magic. I loved Kyla and Roland and I loved reading their story. A keeper for me!

Review: Fun!! Two of my favorite things are in this book: highlanders and time-travel. I had no clue what to expect from this book. I have read just one of Joyce's books before, so I don't have a huge frame of reference. I wouldn't say it's the best time travel ever, but it was definitely a good solid read. Dark, sexy (wicked!!), action filled, and unusual twists. I enjoyed it very much and am really looking forward to the rest of the series! On Brenda Joyce's site are short videos she has produced (with actors) to promo this series. While intrigung, I wasn't so hot on the actors that played the men. But they were kind of fun to watch anyway. I think this series needs some polishing up in order to be excellent (some scenes had an akward or forced feel to them), but being the first in the series this is to be expected, I suppose.

Review: A delight to read. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous book in this series (Lord of Ice), but this one more than made up for it. Jacinda is just a little bit wicked, being the daughter of the Hawkscliffe Harlot, which was sorta fun. And Billy is totally wicked! I confess I love the word wicked. Billy is a very unusual hero -- he ran away from home as a pre-teen and learned to survive on the streets. As the leader of a gang, he is not your typical, run of the mill, aristocratic hero. He's rough, he has tattoos (!!!!), and he is not society wise. I found him refreshing and charming. And wicked, of course. I am totally annoyed at Jacinda's brother Alec. His story would be next, but I am going to skip over his story for now and read about the black sheep of the family -- Jack. I am certain he will be very wicked.

1. Thou shalt not have a cartoon-ish cover on thy novel. I am not 5 years old, I am a grown up. I outgrew cartoons many moons ago.

2. Thou shalt not write a hero or heroine with obscure, made up, unpronounceable names! If thou wants to discuss a book with thy friend, thou does not want to stumble over Flerghlherz and Gtyphlax. Thou shalt use names that I can pronounce without spittle flying out of my mouth.

3. While on the subject of names, thou shalt not give thy hero and heroine gender confusing names. I do not want to read about a heroine named Fred, George, or Tony. It hurts my head trying to figure out who is wearing the skirt in the story.

4. Thou shalt not make a hero wimpy. There is a fine line between sensitive and wimpy, and some authors cross it. The hero shalt not roll over and play dead when the heroine shows some fire. Thou shalt make thy hero fire back.

5. Thou shalt not allow the heroine to be violated unduly or have to endure Very Bad Things for extended periods of time. I realize it is sometimes part of the story and the journey, and I have been able to overlook it on occasion, but it is largely misused and offensive. A gang rape is NEVER ok. Make a note.

6. Thou shalt not write a book where the blurb and cover are more exciting than the actual story. One does not want to close a book and think that thy time would have been better served sitting and staring at the cover.

7. Thou shalt not write a heroine who is stronger, faster, taller, bigger feet, uglier, has shorter hair, or a better shot than the hero. Some things art sacred in a romance -- thy hero needs to be able to save the heroine at all times, in all circumstances. The man shalt be the man, the woman a woman.

8. On that note, thou shalt not make the heroine manly, always wanting to "beat" the hero at something. It is not funny, it is not sexy, and it is boring. If I wanted two manly protagonists I would read a gay romance. I don't, and I won't.

9. Thou shalt be veeeeerrry careful about who is time traveling and where. A woman may go forward or back in time, a man may come forward in time, but a man shalt not go back in time. A modern man lacks the historically appropriate skills to protect the heroine from bad guys.

10. Thou shalt not make thy heroine look like a thirteen-year-old boy. It is not sexy. No matter how "slim/slender/thin", thy heroine must look like the chick that she is. Give her boobs. I don't care if they are gigantic or small, but thou shalt give the poor girl boobs that are apparent.

Review: I really enjoyed this story! This is my first Connie Mason book. Sierra and Ram have convincing chemistry, and they adventure they have on their trip to Denver is certainly an eventful one -- stage crashes, Indian captivity, horse travel, attacks of various sort... very entertaining. It was a little long though. There weren't a lot of words per page, but by the last 100 pages I was about ready for it to wrap up and move on. It wasn't the best book I have ever read, but worth the read!

Review: I was GOING to read this for my western challenge, but sadly there was a minuscule amount of western (3 pages) in this story, so this is getting moved to readers choice. Bummer. I could probably live with that if the book was a very good one, but I found it pretty disappointing. Almost the entire story takes place at an England house party. Yawn. The love scenes (once they show up) are good, but I found myself skimming much of the time, and even once I closed the book I didn't felt like I knew the hero and heroine very well. Even the secondary characters were lack-luster. The most exciting part of the book was the racy kick-back cover.... thankfully it was not a long book, so I was able to fly through it quickly. For excellent Brockway's I suggest her Rose trilogy or her McClairin's Isle trilogy.

It certainly won't be hard to act the street siren with the gorgeous preacher who runs the place, even if he does seem less like a shepherd and much more like a wolf in a clerical collar...one with a hungry look that's making Shay feel she might be his next dinner...

My review: Now here is a story line I have never read before... and that's saying something for having read romance novels for the past 15 years. I really enjoyed it! It wasn't as heavy as I thought it might be, given the subject matter. It was a little odd that the hero was under cover as a preacher.... he certainly didn't act like one, even under cover. Over all this story was engaging and charming and a fun. I would have liked if it had a touch more emotion. I think it could have handled that. But still a solid 4 read. Next is the REAL preachers story... that should be different.

Review: I just LOVE this author!! This book reminded me of her first book, "Highlander Untamed", (which also had a feuding clan theme for those who are still looking for a book for this one) which was my favorite of hers. This book grabs and doesn't let go. It got especially exciting about 100 pages in, at which point I became oblivious to everything around me because I was so absorbed in the story. I so felt for Catriona and wondered how she was going to forgive the terrible wrongs done to her by her enemy. I also felt for Jamie and how torn he was between Catriona and his own duty. My only gripe about this book was that Catriona took a little too long to trust Jamie. It got to the point where she was bordering on petulant child. Other than that, this book was gripping, romantic, hot sex, and action-filled. I highly recommend it!

Review: Eh. Not bad. Interesting book, kept my attention, but there was no 'fire' in this story. The romance just sort of happens, there is no real challenge for either of them. The only conflict was of the mystery variety, which was so-so for me. Until half way through the book I didn't know what the boring journal entries were all about, and by the time I did figure that out I just didn't care very much. Even once they reveal the 'bad guy' I thought, "who? Have we met him?". The ending was all neat and tidy and short with no real depth. I am glad I got this from the library!

Review: I enjoyed this book very much... I wish I could claim to love it, but it didn't quite reach that point for me. I tried not to compare it to 'The Duke and I' overly, but I am sure I was not completely successful. Quinn tried to give us that emotional attachment and sympathy for the hero, but a bee sting issue wasn't quite as heart wrenching as a stutter.... There I go comparing again! It was a very sweet and entertaining story nonetheless. It was interesting to learn more about the Bridgerton dad and how he died, which was not covered in 'Duke..'. I love how she is layering as the books go. Overall a satisfying read and I am still intrigued to read more!

Review: I have been looking forward to this book for ages, so it's a little disapointing to not love it after all the anticipation. I was torn when figuring out what rating to give this book... it's really a 3 1/2 star book for me. Good book, it just never made me sit up and say wow. The romance was a bit tepid. Even though Kurland does not write detailed love scenes, she has often penned highly romantic stories, but this one had me skimming much of the time. It had a couple of moments where I was gripped, but it was largely put-down-able, I am sorry to say. I did enjoy "seeing" Kendrick, who is one of my all time favorite heroes of hers.

Review: Good book... not great. It really didn't have that 'un-put-down-able' quality that The Raven Prince had, to my disappointment. I saw the twist/bad guy a mile away without even trying. LOL! But I found the characters likable and relatable (if that's a word), and the love scenes were HOT! Over all worth the read, but maybe not a re-read or keeper.

Review: An angel meets Lucifer... This book was fantastic. Lord Lucien Knight is quite the bad boy. After he seduces his brothers intended, he takes her to his home where he has a party that is not unlike eyes wide shut meets the playboy mansion. Yeah, like that... Alice Montague is the woman's sister in law, and she manages to make it past Lucien's many safeguards and into the grotto party just to fetch her SIL to bring her back to her sick son. But once Lucien lays his eyes on Alice he knows that he must have her, body and soul, as her innocence is a balm to his damaged soul. In a ploy not unlike the one in Beauty and the Beast, he keeps Alice in his home for a week, where they discover a lasting and beautiful love. very romantic, original, sensual, and action filled, this is NOT to be missed!!!

When I first 'met' Joe in "Wild" I loved him. Couldn't wait for his story. When I realized Luna (also in "Wild") would be the heroine, I was a little less enthusiastic. I liked her as a colorful kooky secondary character, but wasn't so sure about her as a heroine. Well, I have to say this paring absolutely worked! From the first I was caught up in the action, sexual tension, and fascinating story. Joe's protection of Luna and the kids is endearing and funny. This was just a charming story that was easy and fun to read. I am looking forward to reading about Jamie... he's quite the puzzle!

Review: This was the third installment of this fabulous authors first trilogy. The writing was great, the story line good, the heroine totally annoying. As I was reading it I had trouble feeling the connection and romance between Lachlan and Flora, but I didn't put my finger on the problem until close to the end when Lachlan accused Flora of having no sense of responsibility or duty. That's what was bugging me! She's a spoiled brat! If you tell her to go left, she'll go right, just to be annoying and contrary! Someone needed to paddle her bratty behind. Besides Flora's brattiness, it was a very enjoyable and engrossing book. I had to give it a 4 just because of Flora. If she had been more of an adult it could have earned a 5 easily. Book one was definitely the best of the series. I am really looking forward to the authors next trilogy that is coming out as we speak!

Review: I checked the archives, and it appears I have the honor of being the first to review this particular book on the blog. I almost read a different Kleypas book, and I am so glad I stuck with my original plan, because this book was just too fantastic to put off reading another day. I adored it from beginning to end. It was engrossing, romantic, and touching. If you like a tortured hero, you'll love this book. I wanted to give Nick a great big hug. His loneliness is endearing. Charlotte is a bit damaged herself, but she has emerged from her difficult past and become a very caring person when she could have turned bitter. The two characters together were superb -- and the love scenes are HOT. I didn't want the book to end and this book reminded me how very much I enjoy Kleypas's books and makes me wonder what the heck is wrong with me that I don't have more of her books on my shelf!! This was the final installment in her Bow Street trilogy, and I think it was my favorite. This is a fantastic series that ends on a very satisfying note and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Review: I really loved this story. It started out really well with Whip saving Shannon from a pack of disgusting degenerates, and then his unconventional and sweet "courting", to get her to trust him. While I did enjoy it very much, it did get a little old with Whip first trying to sleep with her, then trying NOT to sleep with her, and then trying not to get her pregnant when he finally DID sleep with her (which took entirely too long in my opinion), and then his insistence that he couldn't stay with her because he values the sunrise he hasn't seen more than he values her. Of course he finally realizes that she is indeed more important than "yondering" (a phrase that was used often enough to hurt my head). I think this book could have earned a 5 if the author didn't over use phrases and themes constantly, but I was able to over look it for the most part. I look forward to reading Case's story!! side note: I wish Shannon had used his real name (Rafe) rather than his "west" name (Whip). It would have felt more personal.

Review: This story starts out in India, which I wasn't that crazy about. Frankly, I just don't think it's a very romantic local.... but that's just me. This is the first in the Spice trilogy, and having read them out of order, I already read the second one and loved it so much more than this one. This one wasn't bad, but it just didn't live up to the sensuality I am used to in Foley's novels, and again, the location kind of put me off. It was an interesting read and I did enjoy it -- there was plenty of action and adventure to hold my attention, I just didn't find it terribly romantic. With exception of a couple of scenes, it was a little forgettable. Since I DID enjoy the second one very much, I am still looking forward to the third in the trilogy!

Review: This was a fantastic ending to this Viking trilogy! I enjoyed all three stories immensely, though I think the first book still remains my favorite. This one comes a close second though. This story had plenty going on and lots of emotion to keep me hooked through out. I would very highly recommend this trilogy!!

Review: This is a cute little story. It didn't wow me, but it was enjoyable quick reading All the the frank "I'm hot for you" talk from Morgan got a little old and boring after a while though. This is one of those books I have to read when not distracted because it doesn't draw me in very far, so I got easily pulled out of it.

Romance novels: smart reading

FACT: 50% of romance readers are married.
FACT: 42% of romance readers hold a bachelor degree OR HIGHER.
FACT: The VAST majority of romance authors were previously lawyers, investigative newspaper reporters, college professors, marine biologists, or some other occupation that required a higher (sometimes very high) education. So they are not ignorant idiots. Huh! Go figure!
FACT: Many romance authors have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists multiple times. Not bad for "drivel", huh?

A few years back, I read that when Martha Stewart was serving time in jail she was appalled that many of the inmates were reading romance novels. How dare they??? How could they read something like that in such a charming and happy environment? Um, Martha, did it occur to you to be happy to see them READING? Reading anything at all? Did it occur to her that maybe they needed to read about someone's happy ending when their own lives clearly missed that happily ever after mark? Frankly, I'm a little sick of romance novels getting the turned up nose. I don't turn my nose up at anyone's reading taste. I enjoy a good classic every so often. I don't scorn people who read sports bios, science theory, history, mystery, westerns, or Christian fiction. Ok, to be honest the only type of book I scorn are those grisly true crime books, but seriously, I question the mental health of those people. But I digress.

Why do people scorn the idea of reading about love? Who doesn't want to be loved and cherished and protected and cared for? Why is it not ok to read a story with a happily ever after? Is happily ever after only for children's fairy tails? Contrary to popular belief, all romance novels are not filled from cover to cover with heaving bosoms, creative names for anatomy and stupid characters. Are some? Sure. But every genre has it's dud authors. Many are filled with adventure, fantasy, life, and love. Many include actual history -- yes, it's true, romance authors do actual research and teach the reader a thing or two about big and small historic events. Many even travel to the destination (often out of the country) to get a feel for their location in the novel. I believe that even I would be surprised to find how much I learned about frontier, Regency, and medieval life from one of those "trashy novels".

Over the years I have read so very many books. Shakespeare, Mya Angelou, Austen, Bronte, Christian fiction of all kinds. I've read The Scarlet Letter, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Death of a Salesman, Wuthering Heights, Dickens (didn't care for any of his stuff though). I took English classes that I didn't need in college just for FUN. In other words, I didn't choose romance as my main source of reading for lack of experience reading anything else.

Turn on the news. Pick up a paper. How often do you read or hear a charming, funny, endearing, happy story in one of those places? For many people reading is an escape. A way to relax and take your mind off of things that might be worrying you. So tell me why I would want to read something that might make me feel worse, all in the name of being 'literary'? Not that only romances have happy endings, but in a romance it's generally a given! Is there sex in a romance novel? Usually. It's not always graphic though, and it's not all about that, though I enjoy a touch of spice in my novel..... A romance is a story about the journey towards the destination of love and happily ever after. And often reading about romance helps ME remember that before there were diapers to change, errands to run and laundry to do, I had a romance too. And I still do.

So next time you hear someone put down a romance writer or reader, please keep these facts in mind. There is nothing wrong with choosing to read something enjoyable and happy where good prevails and bad people get what's coming to them. I am not embarrassed to admit I read them, and I'm tired to being smirked at when I admit that I do. Romance readers and writers are more intelligent than they are often given credit for, and it's never a good idea to underestimate someone.

Cullen's Bride by Fiona Brand

When temptation proves too much for the both of them and a night of passion winds up with Rachel getting pregnant, Cullen knows he needs to marry her, but he makes it clear that he won't be keeping her or the baby -- he doesn't trust himself to be a good father and husband. Rachel knows that she needs to convince him that he has already broken the cycle or she will lose the love of her life.

Now HERE is a story I can get enthusiastic and excited about. Cullen is a man. He is a modern day warrior with a sensuality that will make you melt. Rachel is sweet, stubborn, and very lonely. She needs Cullen and he needs her. I absolutely adored this story from beginning to end. Deeply satisfying, emotional, and charming. The connection between Cullen and Rachel is so strong and nothing is going to keep them apart. The whole "I'm not good enough for you" story line doesn't always work, but it really did in this book. This is my second book by Fiona Brand, and I am very excited to read the rest of the books in this fantastic series.

Review: This book was very good, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it very much, but it totally lacked the wow factor that The Raven Prince had. I wasn't completely obsessed with getting back to the story every time I had to put it down. That said, I enjoyed the charming way the author wrote this story with humor and wonderful sensuality. I wasn't so crazy about the forbidden love due to class differences story line though. Also, I like the hero to be larger than life and I didn't feel Harry was quite there. I felt like the class difference held him back from the best hero he could be. This book was definitely worth the read though!

Review: First of all, I have to get on a mini soap box and make a statement: Heroine's should be protected from Very Bad Things. It may not be "real" life, but it's the way a romance should be. It's what I expect. I have to deduct that half point because Solange was not protected. Also for the fact that Solange, her father, and Damon were total idiots for not guessing that her husband, who was CLEARLY evil incarnate, was keeping them all apart. Duh. (I think I might be PMSing. LOL!) ANYway, aside from that annoyance, Shana Abe has crafted yet another highly unusual, lyrical romance that draws you in by slow degrees until you find yourself crying for what the characters have gone through to finally be together. I did appreciate that the Very Bad Things were not graphically detailed. Overall a worthwhile and satisfying story.

Review: I LOOOOOOOOOVED this book. I cannot rave about it enough. I am a sucker for the Viking kidnapping plot, and Josie Litton does it superbly. Cymbra is the kind of heroine I love to read about. She's beautiful but she is also real and I admired (and was also slightly bewildered by) her willingness and conviction to accept her fate, them embrace it, and work towards making her marriage and life the best it can be. I was riveted by this story even at it's slowest parts, which is quite the accomplishment, I think. Wolf was wonderful -- larger than life, strong, very very sexy... sigh!!! The ending was wonderful -- Heartbreaking, then deeply satisfying.

Book Two: The Drama continues in Believe In Me, when saxon Lord Hawk, brother of Cymbra, seeks to strengthen the alliance by wedding a Norse noblewoman. But Lady Krysta arrives bearing many secrets-- including her gift for seeing what others cannot. And as an unexpected love ignites, only Krysta can sense the looming danger that threatens the peace--and Hawk as well.

Review: Lady Krysta arrives at Lord Hawk's holding disguised as a servant to see what kind of man she is getting for her husband, but all goes awry when Hawk is drawn to the 'servant' of the woman he is pledged to marry and her plan for going unnoticed is shot. When Hawk discovers the plan he is angry, but he allows Krysta her "getting to know each other" plan to move forward. I enjoyed this story very much, but the whole mermaid question mark on her parentage was a little odd. If it was going to be part of the story I would prefer it was explored more than it was. It just left more questions than it answered. That is the only reason I had to deduct a point, other than that I was delighted with the story, though it was not as gripping and emotional as book one. I have the third book in this trilogy and I cannot WAIT to read Dragon's story!!

By the time Victoria goes to find him and explain, Robert believes he has been stood up and runs off to London. Robert's father lets her believe he was only dallying with her, and her heart is broken. Seven years later they meet again by chance, and both find that the spark is still there. But both believe the other person stood them up. Now they need to learn to trust again if they are going to be happy ever after.

I almost stopped reading this a couple of chapters in. It started out a little silly, but I decided to give it a bit longer before giving up. I am very glad I did. Julia Quinn has crafted a wonderful emotional story about love lost and then found again. You really feel for both and what they both go through as a result of their meddling fathers. This book, thankfully, does not depend on the big misunderstanding to carry it through the whole book. They do figure out what happened and it becomes more about other issues in the later half of the book. Over all it was fun and enjoyable.

But when the other players don't take well to Reno winning, Eve steals the map in the confusion and runs off with Reno's winnings -- including her virtue. Reno tracks Eve down and grudgingly agrees to team up to find the missing gold mine in the Colorado mountains. As they follow the map and dodge the killers on their tail, they discover that love is more important than gold.

It's true that Lowell tends to follow a formula in her Only series, but it's a formula that works. I really enjoyed this story in classic western form. This is easily the best western series I have read. Lowell's stories are always interesting, always emotional, and always satisfying in the end. I look forward to the next in the series!

Challenge: Read a book published in 2008

This book was chosen by default for this particular challenge, as I almost never buy new books, so I didn't have a large number of new releases floating around on my shelves. This was a very quick read -- I read it within 2 days without even really trying to get through it fast. The characters are likable and interesting -- especially Robert the Bruce the obese cat. I think he was the most amusing character in the book. LOL! While I enjoyed this story it never really moved me or wowed me. It was cute and sweet and I enjoyed the ending a lot. I enjoyed the humor. There were several laugh out loud moments in here that show the authors quirky sense of humor. I have to share one of my favorite lines from the book:

He couldn't have marked his territory any more clearly had he piddled on her kid boots like one of her aunt Margaret's ill mannered spaniels.

Cute! Not mind blowing, and not as good as some of her work, but a cute story. I also enjoyed the secondary romance between his mom and the hunky older landscaping guy.

I've been looking forward to this last Winston Brothers book! Zane Winston is used to women throwing themselves at him, but none have been quite so unusual as the Gypsy palm reader next door to his own electronics shop. Her exotic dark looks aren't really to his taste, but he finds himself oddly intrigued. He goes to talk to her at her home above the store, only to find out that Tamara Tremayne is not so exotic after all! Her long dark wig and black contacts hide a beautiful blonde woman who stirs his interest. But Tamara will have to sell her shop and move if she can't figure out who is trying to sabotage her shop and ruin her business. Now that he has found her Zane will do anything he can to help her and keep her around forever.

Loved it! Plenty of twists and turns, great love scenes, and a very fun cast of characters. Great series!
